Overview
The Festival of Terpsichore will be held this spring to raise money for research into a rare disease that has affected South Carolinians. The Gala to be held April 16-18 at Litchfield by the Sea will feature Ballet Companies from Charleston and Columbia, SC and a night for shagging. The festival is sponsored by The Linda Sirmon Foundation, which was created after Litchfield resident Linda Sirmon died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a degenerative, fatal brain disorder. Bill Sirmon, Linda's husband, setup the foundation to raise money for research and education on the disease. Through The Festival of Terpsichore, Sirmon has created an exciting event where people can enjoy themselves through dance (like his wife did) and obtain information about the disease, all while raising money for important research, potentially life saving. Click here for more information on the Linda Sirmon Foundation CJD Information CJD is a degenerative and fatal brain disorder. Patients have rapidly progressive dementia, experience problems with muscular coordination, and have personality changes. As the disease rapidly progresses, mental impairment becomes severe, involuntary muscle jerks develop and a CJD patient loses the ability to move and speak. A person with this disease can appear to be going about their normal activities; but as the disease develops a CJD patient can die in less than six weeks.
